3 Ways To Wake That Will Make Your Day

“I love life. There’s so much to learn and see all the time,
and nothing nicer for me than to wake up, and the sky is blue.“

-Pattie Boyd

Mornings are a beautiful thing, aren’t they? Well… sometimes, right? Other days we are sooo sleepy, hitting snooze again and again, literally dragging ourselves out of bed and into the kitchen.  We try to will ourselves to become human by drinking the magic potion that is coffee and begin our day.

But how we begin can make a huge difference in how we continue and how we ultimately end. As we know, mornings lead to days and days lead to weeks and weeks lead to years and how we spend our moments is ultimately how we spend our life as a whole.

So, here are a few tips for a more meaningful morning routine to help us all get the most out of our days (though I promise not to mess with your beloved coffee).

1. Wake up with affection. Do your best to start your day with some sort of affection, whether it be snuggling up with your kitty, kissing your spouse, or hugging your kids. Physical touch does wonders for waking your heart up for an awesome day.

If you can’t begin with physical touch, then begin with intentional warmth. Hold open a door and smile at a stranger, wave at your neighbor, or find some other way to express affection that feels right to you.

2. Wake up with direction. Knowing where you are going and how you are going to get there (no GPS needed, thankfully), is a surefire way to reach success. Focus on your goals, think on the things you’d most like to accomplish and how you will get there, and take actionable, bite sized steps to work towards them.

If you become overwhelmed at all you have to do, simply reframe the situation by asking what is the one next thing I need to do? All large goals are accomplished one simple step at a time, so begin there and you’ll make traction in no time.

3. Wake up with reflection. Morning is an inspiring time of day for so many reasons, but one of my favorites is how beautifully quiet everything is. There’s just something about waking up before the world does. This is why it’s personally my favorite time to do soul searching, and why I highly recommend it for you as well. What that may look like in one’s life will vary from person to person.

Some typical favorites are meditation, prayer, yoga, or time spent at the feet of nature. It matters less what it is, and more how it makes you feel. Allow your soul the space and time to breathe and reflect on life for a lovely morning.

What are some of your favorite practices for a productive and peaceful morning?

Until next time, lifers.

XO,

Emily
